Autumnal Outerwear

Hello October

Autumn is by far my favourite season. I love it for all the obvious reasons – the changing colours, cosier evenings, the clothes – but I also love it because it signals new beginnings to me more than any other time of year. Perhaps it’s because it is the time of year when Uni starts again, but I just always feel like I want to re-invent myself a little in the Autumn. I make new goals, work towards new things.

One new goal of mine is to start writing about fashion or should I say personal style here on Sartorial Scot. When I started this blog my intention was to focus on beauty and fashion – thus giving me the idea for my blog name (and well, it sounded catchy). However that never really happened and I have to say that a main part of it was a sheer lack of confidence on my part to both take the photos in public and really just take photos of myself in general.

I’d like to write a post on body confidence in the near-future, so I don’t want to ramble on about this subject too much for now. But in short – I’m not going to let my own insecurities get in the way of doing what I want to do anymore.

…and now onto the post!

This type of outfit is my favourite during these transitional months – it’s simple, casual & warm (without being too warm) but it also looks quite put-together. One of the reasons why I love the clothes during Autumn is that you can just throw on a great coat or pair of shoes with the simplest, most boring outfit, and you can still look like you’ve tried really hard.

Today I thought I’d focus on two new additions to my wardrobe that fall under this category – the classic pea coat and over the knee boots.

The Pea Coat

I have been looking for the perfect navy pea-coat for such a long time – and who knew I’d find it in Marks & Spencer?  Maybe I’m just getting older, or maybe their stuff is just becoming more millennial-friendly, but I’ve been buying a lot of things from good old M&S recently. This coat was £99, which I understand is not the cheapest but it is really good quality and I know I’ll get the wear out of this for multiple seasons.

The over the knee boots

I have been coveting the Stuart Weitzman Highland boots for years now – but I just cannot bring myself to spend over £600 on a pair of shoes. Not yet anyway.

So I’ve been on a mission to find the perfect dupes; a pair that actually go over the knee, stay over the knee & that actually fit my rather large legs. It took me quite a few attempts, but I think I’ve found them – the ASOS Kingdom boots. What I love about these is that they come in both a normal & wide leg option (I went for the wide leg), they fit all my criteria AND they are the bargain price of £55.

glasgow street art

I thought I’d round off this post with a picture of the street art near where we shot this outfit – I’m so guilty of overlooking Glasgow at times, but I love being reminded of how beautiful it is.

I just wanted to thank my instagram husband boyfriend Max for taking these photos for me – even if it did result in a few cross words between us. What is it about taking outfit photos that is just so stressful?! Anyway, I really hope you’ve enjoyed this post – I’d love to hear about any of your experiences shooting outfit photos in public (I need the help!).
