My Favourite Podcasts.

podcasts - the best podcasts to listen to at work

Podcasts have been growing in popularity over the past year or so, and it seems like more and more people are creating new shows on this platform. I personally have loved seeing this happen as I am a huge podcast fan and listen to them every single day.

While there are a lot of blogging related podcasts popping up at the moment (a few of which I’ll mention in this post!) some of my favourite shows are from completely different genres. So today I thought I’d share my favourites with you all and maybe you’ll find a new fave by the end of it.

The High Low

I think I’d go as far to say that The High low is my favourite podcast out of them all. I never miss an episode and normally listen to it on Wednesday mornings as soon as it goes live. It’s hosted by the incredible Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes, who are just utterly hilarious.

The premise of the show is that they discuss the high-brow and low-brow events of the week, but they also talk a lot about books and interesting articles they’ve read recently too. It’s a big cultural mash-up of politics, pop culture and literature – I just love it so much. You can have a listen to it here.

Ctrl Alt Delete

I’m sure you’ve all heard of the lovely Emma Gannon’s podcast Ctrl Alt Delete. Every week Emma has a different guest on to chat about their life online, their careers and various other interesting topics. One thing I love about it is that the guests have all been quite diverse – there have been huge bloggers and celebrities like Lena Dunham but also successful female writers and authors. I love listening to their stories – it makes me so inspired and motivated.

Radiolab

This is a podcast that I don’t hear many people speak about! Radiolab is an investigative journalism show where they talk about a different real story every week – and these stories are always so interesting! They’ve done stories on Venice’s first female gondolier (highly recommend this one – my fave so far!), loopholes in the American judicial system and so much more.

Criminal

This is one of my favourite podcasts to listen to at work. Criminal is (as the name suggests) a crime podcast; but perhaps not how you would expect. They do sometimes discuss heinous crime stories like murders, but they also talk about interesting and unexpected crime stories. There is everything from cases of stolen identity to people stealing road signs that say ‘420’ on them.

Desert Island Discs

Desert Island Discs has a special place in my heart. It isn’t necessarily a podcast, but I listen to it through the iTunes Podcast app. I’m sure you’ve all heard of it, but for those who don’t, DID is a BBC radio show where actors, successful entrepreneurs, comedians etc etc go on to talk about the 8 songs they would want to take with them to a desert island. It is completely fascinating and just really inspirational to hear people’s stories of success.

Everyone from Ed Sheeran, Dame Judi Dench and Sheryl Sandberg have been on it. It’s one of those things where if you’ve been invited onto Desert Island Discs, you know you’ve made it.

Hashtag Authentic

The lovely Sara Tasker (from the blog www.meandorla.co.uk) runs this podcast all about creativity online. A lot of the episodes focus on Instagram too, which is one of my favourite topics. It’s great for getting inspired and motivated to work on creative projects online (and I also find Sara’s voice SO relaxing!). You can listen here.

So those are a few of my favourite podcasts! To be honest, my list was so long and I had to cut it down quite a bit. So I think I’m going to do another one of these posts but focusing on podcasts for bloggers, or something along those lines.

Let me know what your favourite podcasts are, I’m always looking for new ones to listen to!
