Festive Tipple: Tequila and Amaretto Sour

Christmas cocktail: tequila and amaretto sour
Christmas cocktail: tequila and amaretto sour

We are now well and truly into the party season, so I thought I’d share a little Christmas cocktail recipe to get us all into the mood. This is a festive tipple consisting of aged tequila and amaretto – it’s both delicious and rather strong, just how I like my cocktails!

I do love an amaretto sour at this time of the year – there is something really festive about the almond-y taste. But I wanted to do a bit of a twist on it for a Christmas cocktail, so I’ve added aged tequila for a bit of spice and an extra kick.

If you didn’t know, aged tequila is aged (duh) in barrels before bottling, so it’s a bit smoother and spicier than blanco tequila. It’s fab both in a cocktail or on the rocks!

Ingredients

For 2 cocktails

50ml aged tequila (I used Centenario)

50ml amaretto liqueur

50ml lemon juice

25ml simple syrup

Handful of ice

Method

1.   Add ice into a cocktail shaker. Also add ice into the glasses to keep them cold.

2.  Add all the ingredients into the shaker over the ice. Shake until all are combined.

3. Pour mix over the ice in the glasses.

4. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and a raspberry. Enjoy!

So there you have it – a very simple, but delicious, Christmas cocktail! I think the garnish of rosemary and raspberry makes it look so festive, it’s like a little holly berry.

I plan to make a lot of these over the course of the festive season, they really are so perfect for parties and evenings in! Do let me know if you try this recipe out, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. If you’re looking for more Christmas recipes, check out my recent post for this Festive Spiced Sponge Cake.
