My UK Travel Wishlist

I am ashamed to admit that I have not seen a lot of the UK. Despite living here all my life, I haven’t visited so many beautiful places but it’s something that I want to change. I have a wish-list of sorts with all the places I’d like to visit, so I thought I would share that with you today.

Coming from Scotland, AKA where the sun rarely shines, we would always visit warmer climes when going on holiday. Trips to Spain, Portugal and Italy were what I was used to growing up. We just didn’t really consider staying in the UK as an option for a family holiday – we wanted our yearly dose of vitamin D!

However, I’ve come to realise that there are so many amazing places right on my doorstep that could rival the best tourist destinations in Europe. So it’s my aim to try to visit as many as I can every year, even if just for a day-trip or weekend.

Brighton

Despite only living around an hour away by train, I haven’t visited Brighton yet! I’ve seen plenty of photos and vlogs of Brighton, considering it’s a bit of a YouTuber/Blogger hotspot, which has definitely increased my interest in visiting there. I’d like to go for a day trip at some point – doing some shopping in the lanes, going for brunch and then eating fish and chips at the seafront.

Bath

Another city which isn’t too far from London. Bath looks so pretty – it reminds me a little bit of Edinburgh. I’d like to go for a weekend, renting a cute AirBnB and exploring the city.

The Cotswolds

Another blogger favourite, The Cotswolds seem like the perfect place for a really chilled country getaway. I’d like to stay for a long weekend at some point and stay in a traditional cottage. I’m undecided as to whether I’d like to go in the winter (I imagine it being super cosy at that time of year!) or summer (when I imagine there will be plenty of pub gardens to sit in).

Cornwall

This one I have already planned (and officially booked!) to tick off my list. We’re going to Penzance in Cornwall next year over the Easter long weekend and I can’t wait. It looks like there is so much so explore, eat, see, do. My plans are to see as many beaches as possible, eat lots of lovely seafood and take in all the beautiful scenery.

The Isle of Skye

Taking things back up north now (very north) to the Isle of Skye. The scenery in Skye looks quite wild but beautiful and I’ve heard great things about the food there. I don’t think I’ve been further north than Dundee in Scotland (I am a terrible Scot, I know) so I really have to see more of the Highlands.

A Great Scottish Road Trip

So, this is kind of cheating as it encompasses many places. BUT I would love to do a 10 day – 2 week road trip through the Scottish Highlands. I’ve actually kind of mapped it out already, but it’s probably something we’ll have to wait until next year or the year after to do. Ideally I’d like to see lots of the fairytale-looking castles, white sand beaches and idyllic lochs that can be found in the Highlands.

So that is my little UK travel wish-list! Of course there are loads of places I’d like to see, but these are the ones on the top of my list. I’m focusing on the south of England mostly for the moment, because I live so close.

If you have any recommendations for must-see UK getaways, do let me know! I am still a bit clueless about UK travel, so it would be great to get some more ideas of places to visit.
